HRH The Princess Royal opens John Foster’s Almshouse HRH The Princess Royal will officially open John Foster’s Almshouse, Crow Lane, Henbury, Bristol on Monday 22 February 2010 and Her Royal Highness will then visit the Henbury Centre, Machin Road, Henbury, Bristol. The Trustees are delighted that the Princess Royal will view the new almshouse accommodation which provides one and two bedroom flats, “homes for life” for older people and have an opportunity to witness day services at the Henbury Centre. On Thursday 28 January 2010 David W Jones, Chief Executive, made a presentation to the Cabinet of Bristol City Council concerning the efforts, over the last two years, to obtain a new, extended lease in respect of the Summerhill Club, Summerhill Road, St George, Bristol. Bristol Charities has publicly stated on numerous occasions that it wished to invest in the refurbishment of this 1971 building, in order to provide continuing and extended activities and services for older people and other groups in this part of East Bristol. It has argued that in order to justify such expenditure on the building it would require an extended lease. Following the presentation to the Cabinet on Thursday, 28 January 2010 (see webcast) and the response from the members of the Cabinet it is hoped that the City Council will respond favourably.
