CHARITIES’ WORK GOES ON WEB

A website has been launched by the Bristol Charities organisation to provide an insight into their work.

It aims to inform people of the current work of the organization and the history behind the many charities that make up Bristol Charities.

The historical references provide information about Bristol and people who have benefited from charities in the city over the last 600 years.

David Jones, the chief executive of Bristol Charities said: “What is truly remarkable and exciting about the work of Bristol Charities is the synergy between its unique history and its relevance in helping address need in today’s Bristol.”

“Bristol has a long and proud heritage of benefactors helping the residents and this is something that Bristol Charities is continuing to do, through established trusts and also through donations and legacies from individuals who want to create new funds to assist people and institutions in the future.”

Bristol Charities was set up in 1835 to administer charities and it now looks after a wide variety of organizations in the area.

The oldest charity it administers dates back to 1395 and the most recent project is a day services centre in Henbury which is due to open in June2004.
